REMINDER: April EaaSI Network Call

This is your reminder that our next EaaSI Network call is tomorrow, Tuesday (April 4) at 4pm ET / 3pm CT / 1pm PT.

As always, the pinned EaaSI Bimonthly Network Call Info topic will have the most up-to-date info; you will find there an Outlook link to download an ICS file to add the running call to your calendar system of choice, as well as a direct link to launch the yale.zoom.us Zoom room if need be.

This month we will be discussing using EaaSI to provide access to legacy websites and online collections! Myself and @claireafox will present about some exciting recent exploration at Yale on using EaaSI as a platform for live access to emulated web sites/applications. Agenda below:

  • Team updates and Q&A (5 min)
  • Use case presentation: live access to emulated web servers at Yale (20 min)
    • Background/context
      • Why these sites? How were they targeted for emulation?
    • Technical work
      • extracting, packaging, and re-configuring legacy site(s) in emulation
      • testing OpenSLX’s experimental “snapshot”/saved state features and custom JavaScript for embedding published environments
    • Beinecke/Special Collections reorg
    • Decisions for switching over live site to embedded emulation
      • Compute resources
      • Communications
    • Moving forward:
      • Share + document code for embedding public environments
      • Incorporate EaaSI Feedback Form
      • Monitoring usage and performance

    • Who needs to be involved to turn one-off projects or experiments into a repeated service/workflow?

We are light this month on program updates; please see below for a few notes on the ongoing Program Manager search. We will set aside a few minutes as usual for questions but will be looking to spend most of our time on the planned discussion, so please feel free to post questions to this thread in the Forum as well.

    • the hiring committee at Yale narrowed the applicant pool to three candidates for interviews
    • interview process is currently ongoing!
