Update & Reminder: May Node Call Next Week

Greetings @us-hosted cohort members!

We hope that you all are doing well - staying healthy and finding ways big and small to take care of yourselves.

First, an update - I’ve been in and out of the office last week and this week due to family caretaking responsibilities and as a result, we are a bit behind on our forum discussion. Please forgive the delays. I’ll post the forum discussions questions early next week. In terms of formal testing, and everyone having access to their cloud hosted instance of EaaSI - Klaus and Oleg are working diligently on bug fixes and getting everything ready. We can provide a detailed update for you all in the meet next week (which for those that cannot attend will be captured in the running meeting notes document).

We wanted to send along a friendly reminder about next week’s May Monthly Node Call.
We are going to have breakout discussions again this month - but this time the focus will be on a coordinated collection policy for software and images - what that looks like practically speaking, and the role of EaaSI (as a registry of at least what’s in the network) versus what is the role of each org and their collection development policy.

Hi Jessica and SPM/EaaSI crew,
Apologies for being unable to attend. I set my alarm, but somehow I slept right through it.

I’m looking forward to hearing more about progress with the cloud hosted instance of EaaSI. NAA is presently in reporting season. Our executive have been asking us when exactly we might have access to it. Any information you can enlighten us with on timelines for access would be appreciated.

Also, just wanted to say we have definitely been finding the updated resources page useful with all of the additional content now on the page. We have been linking to it and drawing on it for some of our work in database preservation and description, as well as referring NAA staff to it to learn what emulation is.

regards,
Tim Mifsud

Hi @tim.mifsud! CC: @ethan.gates

We missed you yesterday! Here are the notes - we broke out into smaller groups again, this time to talk about community collection development, and practical steps for moving that forward. You can check out the notes here.

And we HEAR YOU about reporting season. While it always adds some pressure in the short term, it is also a great opportunity to catalog your accomplishments and take stock of all the cool things everyone is doing!

To answer your question:
Thanks to Oleg and Klaus’s focused efforts over the last few months and Seth and Ethan’s bug testing over the last few weeks: EaaSI FORMAL TESTING ON YOUR CLOUD HOSTED INSTANCE STARTS NEXT WEEK! Ethan will post an announcement to the forum, as we have with each of the previous activities, with a link back to your individual Google folders. Each node will receive their credentials, and the Node Lead will be able to make accounts for all the members of their team that plan on participating in the formal testing.

We are THRILLED to hear that the resources are providing useful for the team!
Let us know if you have any other questions this week!

Best,
Jessica
