Hello @eaasi-alliance @spn_pilot!
This is a friendly reminder (and a request!) regarding our April EaaSI monthly call next week on Tuesday (April 5) at 4pm Eastern Time / 3pm Central Time / 1pm Pacific . As teased in the last call in February, this time we will be going in-depth on metadata for software and computing environments/emulation, and particularly how our description efforts in EaaSI can intersect with the recently-released SMRF (Software Metadata Recommended Formats) guide published by the SPN Metadata working group.
Luckily we have quite a bit of crossover with the working group, so we will hear a bit from those folks about their background and hopes for SMRF, and then I would like to lead a facilitated activity using the questions posed by the guide.
To that end, I’d ask that if possible, folks take a minute to review two things before Tuesday:
- Look over the SMRF Guide itself!
- Pick/consider one (1) digital object from your identified EaaSI use cases. It could be one that you’ve already tried to configure and run in the EaaSI platform before, or not; the idea of the activity will be to consider SMRF within the context of EaaSI objects/resources. (Pilot participants, remember that you already have a wealth of use cases to draw on from your “Scenerios for (Re)Use and Access” activity last year!)
I am confident we will have a great session either way, but I think with minimal prep we all can really get into the weeds together ![]()
As in February, I am also including general announcements/updates from the EaaSI team below, and we will hold a few minutes at the top of the agenda for questions, but please post below if we can elaborate or explain anything further.
Reminder that our running Zoom link, calendar invite, and running notes document can be found linked in this pinned post:

EaaSI team updates for April 2022
- Seth continues to be on paternity leave
- after returning for some time in late February/early March to lead grant submission, Seth has returned to paternity leave through April 27
- he will be checking in periodically/occasionally during leave but CC myself and/or Euan with any time-sensitive requests
- Progress on Phase 3
- Mellon and Sloan foundations invited the EaaSI team to submit for a third round of funding to start in approximately July 2022
- an initial submission was sent March 1
- after feedback from Mellon and Sloan, a refined proposal will be submitted on this coming Monday (April 4)
- details will remain forthcoming until submission is confirmed/approved by funders, but:
- Status of hosted service
- as a reminder, hosted service nodes from last year’s pilot period (on hosted.eaasi.cloud) will remain supported indefinitely as-is; any changes to service will be communicated well in advance
- New user resources released
- Training Module #6: Building an EaaSI Network is now available
- demo videos in the EaaSI User Handbook have been updated to consistently reflect the EaaSI UI and current features/workflows (if you would like more concepts, features, or workflows explained in this manner, let me know!)
- feel free to share and re-use!
- Student team updates
- one of our student workers received a fellowship, which is wonderful but unfortunately meant she could no longer continue working with us; congratulations and thank you for your hard work, Nina!
- fortunately, we were able to make a new hire to supplement the team; welcome, Neeta!
